Tar Heel Bus Tour

The previous entries on this blog were all to do with a CE course that I was doing from the MLA about Web 2.0.  Now for the really fun part – the Tar Heel Bus Tour!

I will begin blogging about that tomorrow, as I am now finished packing and must go to bed – I have to be there at 6:30 AM, which means I have to get up in less than 6 hours.  Rocky Mount, Greenville, Morehead City, and New Bern.  I am especially excited about Morehead City – we’re visiting the Institute of Marine Sciences – but all of it looks extremely interesting.

Privacy in Librarianblogs listed on Rollyo

I searched Rollyo for posts referencing privacy in the Librarianblogs searchroll.

The Shifted Librarian seems to spend a lot of time talking about privacy concerns – an old post about the Wyden Amendment to the Patriot Act caught my eye.  Even if that Amendment had passed – and it may have; I can’t tell from a quick glance – it says that the Pentagon could resume spying on citizens if Bush felt that it was necessary for National Security.  What good is that?!  We all know where the Patriot Act came from in the first place, and it wasn’t the Congress.  Aaagh.

Anyway, this search does not return results in order by date, and I can’t figure out how to sort them by date.  I went to go create a new Searchroll, figuring that that would show me how, but it appears that all it will do is search each one, with no clear way to define how you search them.  I’m not sure how useful that is, other than just for random roving around.

Mash-ups

I had heard of mash-ups, and have even used them, but didn’t realize that until I read through these pages.

I found one called Wii Seeker on Programmable Web that the idea of I really like –   http://www.programmableweb.com/mashup/wii-seeker I have no desire for a Wii, but I recently bought an eeePC.  The model I wanted was scarce, and I could have really used something like an eeePC version of Wii Seeker, which searches nearby stores of all sorts, online shops, and online auctions for in-stock Wiis.  I also saw several that tracked specific word traffic, or link popularity, and other things.  Many of them seemed pretty limited to me, but like the Wii Seeker, if you find a mash-up that fits your exact need, it would be much more useful than having to manually search and combine searches and site results.
